The phone that in conjunction with Google Calendar ran my life is no more...long live the phone. That said, I at least believe that it was a slightly dashing act of chivalry that allowed it to go off into the void, rather than something more lame...

So, I've realized LJ is mostly local folks I know, where as FB is far more diverse... on a slightly related note, does anyone have a metal file I could borrow? Or even a wood planer?

1) Is up at 6:39am googling the difference between night terrors and nightmares. Sigh...

2) Thinks he saw his head in a documentary.

3) Realizes that he is writing these lines as if he is making Facebook updates (with no subject to the sentence), but is not making Facebook updates. (There's something about not checking Facebook for even just a limited time, and seeing hundreds and hundreds of updates and having to deal with FB's bad UI to sift through them that makes me actually go back to LJ for a moment.)

Boston = #4 drunkest city in the U.S....I would've guessed *much* lower considering some of the cities we beat...

It looks like I will be in San Francisco for the second week of March. I have a little extra time on the day I arrive (Monday the 8th) and the day I leave (Sunday the 14th), so if anyone around in San Francisco wants to hang out either of those days, let me know!

Also, if anyone knows anyone going to GDC that week that is looking to split a room, I'm looking for such as well!

I did it. I changed my facial hair (temporarily) for the first time in many years for a "competition" today at work. All I have to say? "Who stole my lucky charms?"

You all have been warned, for those that might see me in the next two weeks or so. :)

Random follow-up: How do people feel in general about cross-posts between various social media? Like if I were to post almost identical things on LJ and FB: 1) Does anyone care / get annoyed / whatever? 2) Does anyone like it, because they have multiple avenues to reply?

I've done a lot of cross-posting in the past between LJ and mailing lists...but now...hm.

I have been severely neglecting LJ in favor of FB these days...so I'm way behind on my LJ'ing...like a week plus...will get there though.

I still think of the medium like this though:
Twitter -- ultra short form (too short for me to be that interested so far to date, really...maybe once I get my new phone)
Facebook -- slightly longer form than Twitter, but I feel like I use my FB for what most people use Twitter for
LJ -- Long form, to have lengthier discussions...but I still feel like I use my LJ even (in the past at least) for the random URLs or whatever that folks would use twitter or FB for.

But that FB / LJ breakdown is sort've what I'm thinking of aiming for in the future. We'll see though...

Got rear-ended on the way to work today, on the second day ever that I decide to drive to this place. Awesome...heh... It was incredibly minor though, just scraped up my rear bumper a bunch. Meh. More random than anything else!

So really looks like it's between:

Droid - Real keyboard - Verizon - Android (so more open, but less apps)
iPhone - virtual keyboard - AT&T - iPhone OS (more closed, but more apps)

Both seem basically to be the same price in the end, for both plans and phone cost...
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...

So, I need a new phone quite badly and doesn't necessarily mind changing from T-Mobile. Knowing not a ton about the latest, what should I get, folks? iPhone? Droid? Cliq? G1? Something else? (Note: Real keyboard = highly preferred.)

I've heard the G1 is really slow...I don't want a MyTouch as if I'm going to get something without a keyboard, I might as well just switch to iPhone at that point...

(Also, FWIW, at the moment I can't send text messages, only receive them (phone dyyyyyying).)

More funny things:
- Last night: (ok, it's not a quote, but I witnessed a man play Michael Jackson's "Beat It" on acoustic guitar and harmonica...that's special)
- Today: "What was the problem? We were in Iowa."

I seriously need to make an effort to blog the crazy/funny things that get said around me more frequently...Over the long weekend, SO much funny stuff... Some things I do remember:

Last night: someone describing someone else from their past as "like human fugu"

Today: "monkey laser pointer" and "Christian, do you like fossils?"

Tonight: "I am going to go to a store and get one of those Groucho Marx glasses, noses, and mustaches thing. Then the person won't know who I am!"

I bought a bicycle yesterday at the Somerville bike auction. Amusingly enough, like 8 hrs. later and in another city, I later bumped into someone else who had just bought a bicycle at the exact same auction. It is a tiny world!

Subject:Comcast, RCN, and more...
Time:11:26 pm.
So, currently I have Comcast cable and internet. No HD reception, no DVR, and only showtime as far as premium channels go...I don't have the triple play with the phone (what's the point?), just the digital TV + Showtime and the Internet.

But I'm definitely switching it up at least somewhat, and looking for advice/input from other locals on how to do so.

1) There's an HDTV here now, so need to get HD service...looks like that's only like $8-9 a month extra, so no big deal. It's a little confusing what channels that adds, but I think I got it figured out...

1b) It looks like none of the HD stuff is part of Comcast OnDemand? This true?

2) Debating adding the DVR, which is like $10 extra a month...anyone have Comcast's DVR? How is it? How much does it hold and is it decent to use?

I have to say, however, I've been a bit frustrated with Comcast's internet service...that said, I'm debating switching to RCN. So, anyone locally have RCN?
3) How's the Internet speeds and uptime?
4) How's their OnDemand?
5) How's their HD selections?
6) How's their DVR service?

Much thanks to any input anyone's got!...

Not 100% definite yet, but very very likely: Zombieland tomorrow night @ Somerville Theatre @ 7:45pm. Then afterwards might head to XMortis. At least a couple people interested already I believe...anyone else game? If so, drop me a line!

I *highly* recommend that *any* person reads this article. I have a hunch this got floated around by various folks a long time back, when the article first was written in 2007, but I only just now saw it. If you've ever read anything about how evolutionary biology effects human behavior, this won't be that surprising, but if you haven't, it will be significantly so. Regardless, check it out.
